places
“A place belongs forever to whoever claims it hardest, remembers it most obsessively, wrenches it from itself, shapes it, renders it, loves it so radically that he remakes it in his own image.”
-JOAN DIDION
place
The word place is associated with the definitive- a coordinate to be mapped, a source to return to. But place is not limited to the physical, it can equally be used to describe the abstract locus around which memories, stories, and moments construct an idea of that which is now absent- a simulacrum to make present the forgotten or irretrievable. Along the axis of a shared past, places serve as organizational frameworks where groups of memories are stored.
